Friendly hotel
Newtown hotel is a very mixed crowd but friendly the bar staff are very good you can order food and drinks , Friday they have a drag queen signing up customers for emails etc quite fun as they draw a prize
Re-vamped and worth a visit
"The Newtown" was THE place to go to back in the late 80's/early 90's. It closed at midnight and patrons would wander down the road to the Imperial Hotel (the Impy) and continue the night away. Nowadays it still closes at midnight but has had a complete makeover and it is awesome. A mix of patrons now go there from our LGBT community to the hip and quirky. Drinks are reasonable, atmosphere is welcoming and the menu of the restaurant upstairs designed to share among friends. The Newtown Hotel is well worth a visit and easily accessible by train or bus from the city, which is about 5km away.
Newtown Hotel
I like many Sydney siders use to frequent the Newtown hotel for a drink, a dance, play pool, meet, watch drag shows....that was then this is now ! The place has been renovated and looks great. However, it is no longer exclusively a gay hotel - your sharing it with the locals and straight people who are very gay friendly. There is now an a very impressive food service area and a great balcony upstairs. Missing is the dance floor and the pool tables - and it is worthwhile to visit. Sunday afternoons are the best time to go - when alot of the local gay men and women frequent. worthy of a mention
