Jules and Dolores - Opening Night Fiesta

The 11th Sydney Latin American Film Festival is taking place at Dendy Opera Quays between 8 and 12 September - join us! >> OPENING NIGHT FILM & FIESTA<< PLENTY OF COUNTRIES FEEL LIKE THEY’VE BEEN ROBBED OF THE WORLD CUP, BUT NONE QUITE LIKE BRAZIL. Feature | Brazil | 2016 | Dir. Caíto Ortiz | 90 min | Portuguese with English subtitles Rio de Janeiro, 1983. In an attempt to pay off his gambling debt and appease his flamboyant girlfriend Dolores, fun-loving Peralta decides to steal a golden replica of the legendary Jules Rimet Soccer World Cup trophy. Too bad heists the original cup, which puts the entire country on high alert. Jules and Dolores is an imagining of what “could have” happened to the trophy. Based on a remarkable event in Brazilian history that was kept under wraps from the international stage. OPENING NIGHT FIESTA Following the film, join us for our Opening Night Fiesta @ Cruise Bar featuring Kriola Collective and DJ Don Juan! KRIOLA COLLECTIVE A celebration of Soul, Funk and Samba 1970’s Brazilian style! Unique 10 piece band, ‘Kriola Collective’ features some of Sydney’s best musicians playing a snapshot of the 1970’s Black Rio Samba, Soul and Funk movement in Brazil. The band’s repertoire includes a classic mix of groovy Brazilian beats, Bossa Jazz, Funk and Soul from the Carnival capitol of Rio. DJ DON JUAN With a DJ career spanning 20+ years Don Juan could be well regarded as a pioneer in an industry bursting at the seams with all things urban to date. With his roots firmly planted in the world of Latino music, it is easy to see why the Don is Australia’s No 1 Latino DJ. A Don Juan set never leaves you missing a beat!
