A blast from the past, this classic German coming-of-age dramedy is back for you to relive the magic. In the 12 years since its initial release, Summer Storm (Sommersturm) has earnt its place in the LGBTIQ cinema hall of fame.
Summer Storm tells the story of a South German rowing team in training for a regatta. When team member Tobi begins to realise his desire for his friend and teammate Achim (Kostja Ullmann), his struggles are both helped and hindered by the arrival of the all-gay rowing team from Berlin, the Queerstrokes. Skeptical of Achim’s relationship with his girlfriend Sandra, and pursued by the beautiful Anke, Tobi is totally lost. It’s a sexy and funny film, confronting the topic of teenage sexuality with candour and mirth.
This 2004 film, winner of the audience award at Muncher Filmfest 2004 and several awards for best director and best actor, is a charming tale of sexual awakening.
Coming In, the latest film from Summer Storm director and star, is also screening.
Filmmaker guests: Marco Kreuzpaintner and Kostja Ullmann
