Poet Brian, a man trapped by his own cliches, seems to have the kiss of death when it comes to men. He spends a sizzling night with the younger Tony, who panics and leaves, before visiting his ex-boyfriend, who's now seeing a woman. As he tracks back through past loves, desperate for inspiration, he finds it is not his writing, but he himself, who pushes love away.
Meanwhile, aspiring actor Jim grows frustrated with his relationship with Drew, a sculptor with little time for anything but his work, who worships Jim as a muse. In an attempt to find his independence he encounters casual sex, sugar daddies, and the poet Brian.
Beautiful Something is a series of vignette-like encounters in the lives of four young men, searching for identity in a post-AIDS society. A modern day Rent for the gay men of today, this stunning, gritty, warm, sexy film asks who we are without a strong sense of our community.
Quiet and atmospheric with sparse, impressionistic dialogue, this film feels both incredibly real and incredibly like a dream. With delicious, warm cinematography, original music by Luke O’Malley, and the poetry of award-winning gay poet Richard Siken, Beautiful Something is a visual and auditory experience like no other.
"Each steamy sex scene in Beautiful Something is a titillating and sometimes explicit showcase of what drives almost every gay man wild: nice bodies, cute faces and full frontal nudity." - San Diego Gay and Lesbian News
"This immersive film is poetic and mesmerizing. It's something beautiful indeed." - Ynot at the Movie
