FOUR MOONS features four gay storylines that deal with love, desire and self-acceptance.
An old family man and retired university professor, Joaquin, propositions a handsome and ripped sex worker in a gay sauna to live out erotic and fantastied experiences. An eleven-year old, Mauricio, struggles with his attraction to his male cousin, showing the harsh realities of first and unrequited love. Two former childhood friends and now college students, Fito and Leo, first set out to rekindle their friendship, but a romance ensues with both having to deal with their identity and ‘coming-out’. The gay long-term lovers, Hugo and Andres, deal with the latter's infidelity with another man and what it means to hold onto a life built together. These seemingly disconnected stories elegantly delve into gay desire in a modern age across different generations.
The film won Best Mexican Feature Film in the Monterrey International Film Festival, and was also nominated in the San Sebastian International Film Festival, a testament to the talented first-time filmmaker, Sergio Velarde. The Hollywood Reporter has praised it for the "slickly produced and well-acted" performances. Audiences will be left spellbound by this honest and heart-felt film that deals with the complexities of desire.
