In a society that can sometimes prize "the body beautiful", bears stand out as group that doesn’t usually fit into this category and which flaunts beautiful beary bellies & a ton of fur with pride in the face of those who hold smooth and toned as the most desirable physique.
We know that with pride in our community, there can also be some individual anxieties and very personal concerns.
But, out and proud beary individuals can be inspiring role models for individuals of all ages and from different communities groups to not give in to some of society's expectations that they need to lose the fat and keep a tight hold on the clippers.
During this forum we will explore the psychosocial pressures around body image as well as health factors.
Hosted by Ash Luton (Mr HCB 2013) we are proud to have guest speakers Dr George Forgan-Smith (the Healthy Bear, Melbourne) and Barry Taylor (National LGBTI Health Alliance) help us discuss these important community issues.
This is sure to be a highlight event during Bear Pride 2013.
